America’s workforce is being hollowed out by substance use disorder and addiction. Amidst the skyrocketing rates of addiction, businesses across every industry are reckoning with the best approach to protect, retain and hire employees.

Every kind of substance misuse, not just opioid addiction, directly affects employers. Substance use disorders impact absenteeism and presenteeism (inattention at work), health care expenses, disability and workers' compensation, and increased taxes to pay for law enforcement, criminal justice and publicly-supported medical treatment.
