With Kentucky’s November 7 statewide election fast approaching, join us for a spirited discussion with three in-the-know Frankfort lobbyists on the competitive Gubernatorial race and other Constitutional office contests.

Join us for light bites and refreshments as we hear the inside scoop on top issues, strategies, and other political maneuvers that are moving voters in the Commonwealth. Our featured guests include three experienced political advisors from some of Kentucky’s top lobbying firms.

Our featured panelists include:

Sherman A. Brown is a Partner at McCarthy Strategic Solutions. Born and raised in Louisville, Sherman graduated from Trinity High School, earned his bachelor’s degree in communications from Xavier University in Cincinnati, and completed his Master of Public Administration from Western Kentucky University. Sherman is an experienced and knowledgeable political advisor who has held senior roles in campaigns ranging from local municipal elections to statewide gubernatorial and US Senate campaigns. He has also served in senior positions within the Kentucky Democratic Party, including Finance Director, Political Director, and Interim Executive Director.

James Higdon is a Principal at MML&K Government Solutions. James, an Owensboro native, graduated with distinction from the University of Louisville’s Professional MBA program and graduated magna cum laude from the UofL with a B.A. in Political Science. He lobbies for a diverse client roster in the policy areas of revenue & taxation, information technology, local government, transportation, water and wastewater utilities, and health care. In addition to direct lobbying, he assists many clients with business-to-business and business-to-government opportunities. In 2021, James was elected as a statewide member-at-large to the Republican Party of Kentucky. He also serves on the Executive Committee of the Jefferson County Republican Party.

Mackenzie Williams is a Senior Associate at Top Shelf Lobby. A native of Kentucky, Williams graduated from the University of Kentucky with a bachelor’s degree in political science. Makenzie started in politics on the ground level with Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell’s 2014 re-election campaign. Following the campaign, Williams joined Leader McConnell’s Lexington office, eventually ascending to leadership within the Republican Party of Kentucky, where she helped raise millions for Republican campaigns as Finance Director. In her role as a lobbyist, she manages issues for Top Shelf Lobby clients in fields such as healthcare, telecom, energy, and sports wagering.

Patrick Crowley will moderate the event. With a career spanning nearly three decades across newspapers, magazines, television, and digital platforms, Patrick is one of the most prolific journalism figures in Northern Kentucky. Perhaps best known for his 16 years in the Cincinnati Enquirer, where he served as a business/political writer and columnist, his outstanding work was recognized in 2004 when his series on casino gambling earned him state and national awards. In 2007, the Kentucky Press Association named him the state's top columnist, and the Washington Post selected him as one of the nation's top political reports and bloggers.
