Common Core education standards are a hot button issue in our region and across the nation - many are divided on the wisdom and effectiveness of these standards. Eggs 'N Issues brings this debate to the fore as we welcome experts on both sides of the issue - Brigitte Blom Ramsey from the Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence will speak in favor of the standards, while Richard Innes, with the Bluegrass Institute for Public Policy Solutions, will speak out against Common Core. About Our Speakers...

Brigitte Blom Ramsey
is the executive director of the Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence. Prior to joining the Prichard Committee in May of 2014, Ms. Ramsey was the director of public policy for United Way of Greater Cincinnati. She was appointed to the Kentucky Board of Education in 2008 and served until 2014 at which time she was vice-chair of the Board. Ms. Ramsey served as an elected member of Pendleton County Board of Education for 10 years, from 1998 until 2008. She holds undergraduate degrees in economics and international studies from Northern Kentucky University and a master's degree in public policy from the University of Kentucky Martin School.

Richard Innes, currently the staff education analyst for the Bluegrass Institute for Public Policy Solutions, has been investigating Kentucky's education reforms since 1994, gaining a reputation along the way with Kentucky's legislators and others for his insightful, data-driven examinations of the Commonwealth's public education system. Innes gained national attention in 1999 after he highlighted significant problems with exclusion of learning disabled students from the National Assesment of Educational Progress. A 20th year anniversary paper about the National Assessment Governing Board lists Innes' discovery among the most notable events in that board's history. Closer to home, Innes' many reports, papers, blogs and videos about the shortcomings of Kentucky's school assessment program, known as CATS, played a role in the Kentucky legislature's 2009 decision to discontinue that program. He has authored many documents, including "Fair and Proper Use of the National Assesment of Educational Progress," "Blacks Falling Through Gaps 2012 Update" and "Unbridled Learning - Can we trust what it tells us about Kentucky's schools." Mr. Innes holds a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering degree from the Air Force Institute of Technology at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio and degrees of Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He is a retired combat veteran from the United States Air Force where he served many years in instructor pilot positions
