About us
Thrive Empowerment Center offers practical, female-led, trauma-informed personal safety and assault resistance education. Our supportive community fosters growth, strength, confidence, and healing. The heart of Thrive is Empowerment Self-Defense (ESD), a unique and evidence-based approach to personal safety that acknowledges the statistical realities of everyday violence. More often than not, assault starts with small violations and then escalates, and it’s more likely to be perpetrated by someone you know. While it’s important to always be prepared for “the stranger in the alley,” true self-defense is multifaceted and includes recognizing the warning signs of interpersonal violence, effective boundary setting, de-escalation, and learning to use your voice and posture to move through the world safely and with confidence. ESD also acknowledges the cultural, historical, and gender issues that are undercurrents of violence. Our curriculum is powerful, effective, and comprehensive because it addresses the entire continuum of safety: violence prevention, assault resistance, and healing in the aftermath of trauma. No matter what your experience or goals may be when you walk into a class, you will leave empowered.

It’s been such a busy year already for Thrive! We were so excited to get to return to where it all began and teach a workshop. 4 years ago we held our first #5WeekSeries at the Boone County Public Library. We loved being back and seeing how much we have grown! #SelfDefense

We were so grateful to be invited to by both NAWIC Cincinnati and PLUMBERS, PIPE FITTERS & MECHANICA EQUIPMENT SERVICE LOCAL UNION 392 Women’s Group. We really enjoyed the conversations about de-escalation techniques that can be useful for tense jobsite related situations. How to diffuse and walk away from these uncomfortable confrontations. These women were POWERFUL forces!

Spent such an amazing Saturday morning at Dress for Success Cincinnati as part of their #EmpowerHer program. We worked on tools for confidence and assertiveness in the workplace as part of our #HearMyVoice workshop.
